In response to IE Bulletin 79-12 (Reference 1).TVA committed to perform unit

and cycle-specific analyses of control rod withdrawal sequences in order to

ensure that rod notch worths were acceptable (References 2 and 3).

Beginning with Unit 2 Cycle 6. TVA will be implementing the generic Banked Position Withdrawal Sequence (BPWS) and Reduced Notch Worth Procedure (RNHP)

(References 4 and 5).

GE has reviewed the Browns Ferry Rod Worth Minimizer groupings used in this wtthdrawal sequence and concluded that the results of the generic BPWS analyses are applicable to Browns Ferry.

In addition, TVA has specifically analyzed this withdrawal sequence to ensure that the notch worths aie sufficiently small so as to minimize the possibility of a fast period scram, iK0

t Since the generic BPWS/RNWP has been previously approved for group notch rod sequence control system reactors by NRC (Reference 6), TVA is revising its j

commitments regarding fast period scrams to no longer require cycle and unit specific analyses of rod notch worths.
