SUBJECT:

EVALUATION OF TWO BEAVER VALLEY 2 NUCLEAR PLANT EQUIPMENT DEGRADATION EVENTS FOR THEIR COMBINED-SIGFNIFICANCE The enclosed technical review report evaluates the safety significance of two Beaver Valley 2 events which were submitced as Licensee Event Reports.

The events concerned degradations which could have had an adverse impact across systems or system trains. The two LERs have a compounding effect when considered together. The primary problem was partial blockage of ESW flow to two of the four heat exchangers in the containment heat removal system.

The LER events analyzed herein could'have an adverse impact on the reactor cooling function given a LOCA and on the mitigation of a LOCA by the containment

. systems. Although the risk significance of these events were minimal the analysis is representative of the need to examine concurrent degradations and failures of systems. The corrective action taken by the licensee appears to have been. adequate. Therefore, no further action'by AEOD other than monitoring these types of events is required.
