Dear-Sirs:
' M1C Generic Letter 89-13 addresses the problems associated with biofouling of
! service water systems and the subsequent effect on safety-related eauipment.
GPU Nuclear has reviewed the information contained in this generic letter and has determined that it is not applicable to the current, long-term, cold l
shutdown condition of TMI-2. However, we have reviewed the TMI-2 service water. system operation ~with regard to the expressed concern. To date, no problems 'with fouling in service-water-supplied heat exchangers have been
-documented. :Indeed, present and projected future cooling load are a small percentage of system capacity and, upon entry into PDMS, the service water
?systemLwill be shutdown. If a decision is made to restart TMI-2, this NRC Generic Letter will be' re-evaluated.
