SUBJECT: EXAMINATION REPORT No. 50-225/89-01 (0L)

On September 6-7, 1989, the NRC administered examinations to three individuals

who had applied for licenses to operate the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Critical Facility. At the conclusion of the examination, the preliminary

findings were discussed with those members of your staff identified in the

,

enclosed report.

.

The grading of the written examinations resulted in two candidates failing the

examination.

Since both candidates failed Section K of the written examina-

tion, Fuel Handling and Core Parameters, it is indicative of a weakness in

your. training program and as such is being brought to your attention.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of

this letter and its enclosure vill be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
