BSnyder Thank you for your letter to J..r. Stolz corrienting on our letter to
!!r. Ilukill of GPU dated July 17, 1981. As you know the subject of that correspondence was the forwarding of a Safety Evaluation Report (SER) on THI-l's com.p11ance with IE Bulletin 8&O6 relating to engineered safety features (ESF) actuation.
You should be aware that the situation as described in the SER is not correct, because the SER did not reflect additional infomation received I
fmm the licensee an Noverber 7.1980.
In the tievember 7,1980 letter, the licensee reported that the control mom switches for the affected sampling valves are different fmm those in the elementary wiring diagrams.

The presently installed switches pmvent the valves from leaving the emergency mode position upon reset of the ESF signal. The licensee will also conduct a test to verify this situation and when we receive the test msults our SER on this subject will be modified accordingly.
You also asked whether this situation occurs at BWRs. All BURS must also conply with IE Bulletin 80-06. The staff reytew is not complete but to date, no BURS have been shown to be not in cwpliance with IE Bulletin 80-06.
