Fermi-2 Containment Long Term Program (LTP) -
Installation of Modifications As described in the reference 2 letter, the Edison approach for the re-solution of the Mark'I Containment issue has provided an early and prompt reassessment of the Fermi-2 containment design for the suppression pool hydrodynamic loading conditions. The attachment to the reference 2 letter identified the status of the Fermi-2 containment modifications and demonstrated that Edison has proceeded at risk to install extensive modifications prior to the final LTP acceptance criteria.
As committed in the reference 2 letter, Edison has been proceeding with maximum effort to complete the LTP-PUA for the suppression pool chamber, vent system, and suppression chamber internals by the NRC requested May 1, 1982 date. Edison anticipates that this aspect of the LTP-PUA will confirm that the installed and currently identified modifications have restored the origiani intended margin of safety in the containment de-sign. However, should it be determined that additional modifications are necessary to establish conformance with the acceptance criteria of Appendix A of NUREG - 0661, Edison is commited to the installation of such modifications prior to fuel load.
