FEDERAL ENERGY REGULATORY COMMISSION _.

WASHINGTON 2M26 IN REf%Y REFER TO:

June 18, 1981 Mr. Frank J. Miraglia Acting Chief, Licensing Branch No. 3 Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Cannission Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Mr. Miraglia:

I am replying to your request of May 8, 1981 to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for comments on the Draf t Environmental Impact Statement for the Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit No. 3. This Draft EIS has been reviewed by appropriate FERC staff components upon whose evaluation this response is based.

This staf f concentrates its review of other agencies' en-vironmental impact statements basically on those areas of the electric power, natural gas, and oil pipeline industries for which the Commission has jurisdiction by law, or where staff has special expertise in evaluating environmental impacts in-voled with the proposed action. It does not appear that there would be any significant impacts in these areas of concern nor serious conflicts with this agency's responsibilities should this action be undertaken.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this statement.

l Sincerely,

'M ac M. Heinemann Advisor on Environmental Quality l L
