Dear Mr. Engelken:
This letter is in response to IE Bulletin 81-03 of April 10, 1981 con-cerning flow blockage of cooling water to safety system components by Corbicula Sp (Asiatic Clam) and Mytilus Sp (Mussel). In accordance with IE Bulletin 81-03, inspections of the Fire Protection System and other safety-related systems at the Tre:an Nuclear Plant are presently being conducted in order to determine if the Corbicula Sp is present. Due to the heavy work load of the 1981 refueling outage, it is unlikely that the results of these inspections will be available in time to meet the scheduled reporting date of IE Bulletin 81-03.
It is proposed, therefore, that the results of thece inspections be forwarded to your office within 30 days af ter the startup of Cycle 4 operations. This delay will not affect Plant safety because of the present shutdown condition of the Trojan Nuclear Plant. Unless we hear otherwise, we will proceed with this proposed schedule.
Sincerely, Bart D. Withers Vice President Nuclear c:
