STAFF REQUIREMENTS - BRIEFING /0N SECY-81-267 - 10 CFR 60, DISPOSAL OF HIGH-LEVEL RA 5 0 ACTIVE WASTES IN GEOLOGIC REPOSITORIES: TECHNICAL CRITERIA, 10:10 A.M., TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1981, COMMISSIONERS' CONFERENCE ROOM, D.C. 0FFICE (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE)
The staff continued their Sriefing of the Commission on the proposed rule on Technical Criteria for High-level Waste Repositories.
The staff indicated they would reexamine the wording on page 26 of the proposed rule dealing with evaluation of alternatives to the major design features.
The Commission asked the staff to rewrite and relocate Paragraph 6G.101(d),
placing it with the Design and Construction Requirements, 560.130 on page 41.
The staff indicated tnat tney planneo to ciarify tne1r intent in Section 60.111(b)
(2)(ii) with regard ~to nuclide inventory, upon which the 1-part-in-100,000 release ebould be based.
Tsetbn'ic 3tiEilhi,' ~530.ll2(a),~ page 35, should be defined.

The Commission asked the staff to provide some additional clarification on how they plan to deal with population density when evaluating a disposal site. The staff should check the labels on Figure 6 in Enclosure J to SECY-81-267.
Commissioner Bradford indicated that he had some questions that he would place in a memorandum to the staff.
Chairman Hendrie indicated he had further items to discuss on the proposed rule at a future meeting.
The Comission reached no decision at the meeting. The Chairman indicated that further consideration would be given to the proposed rule at a meeting at a later date.
(Subsequently, a meeting was scheduled for Hednesday, May 20,1981.)
