Dear Mr. Helfrich:
In response to State's request in discussions on March 12 and 13 with other Executive Branch agencies, NRC, and NUKEM, enclosed please find a telex from NUKEM and a letter from Transnuclear, Inc. requesting export license applicatios XSNM01444 be revised. Transnuclear requests the amount of material be reduced from 9.670 kilograms U-235 contained in 10.364 kilograms uranium to 2.211 kilo-grams U-235 contained in 2.370 kilograms uranium enriched to 93.3 percent.
This reduced quantity will take care of the customer's requirements through 1985. The balance of the material that had been listed in XSNM01444 will be covered in a separate license application which will be forwarded for your review. This material will not be required by the customer until after 1985.
State requested NUKEM to separate the license requests in order to expedite the review process.
Please consider this amended request in conjunction with the earlier information which we forwarded to you regarding license application XSNM01444.
