SUBJECT:

BYRON SITE VISIT, MAY 19, 1981 On May 19,1981 a tour of the Byron site was conducted by the NRC staff environmental and site safety reviewers.

The purpose of the site visit was to gather information in preparation of the staff's detailed review of the applicant's ER and FSAR.

Preliminary questions were given to the applicant before the visit so that the tour would be tailored to highlight points of interest to the staff and so that CE would arrange to have appropriate technical staff present for discussions.

A number of the environmental review staff met with local agencies on May 20th to complete their information gathering. A list of attendees is enclosed. Representatives of EPA, U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Corps of Engineers as well as the Rockford League of Women Voters were present.

Overall, the staff achieved their objectives and obtained most of the information needed to complete their review. They will now proceed to formalize questions rega-ding outstanding issues.
