Site Specific Earthquake - Structural Reassessment
Dear Mr. Kintner:
This is in response ':o the request for additional information from your Structural Engineering Branch which was telecopied to us on May 27, 1981.
The Seismic Category I structures and buried pipes and conduits have been structurally reassessed for the effec't of the site specifie earthquake.
In reference to LOCA stresses, the perti. tent information on original load combinations and respective stress components, including those due to LOCA, have been presented in Chapter 4 and in Appendices thereto of the reassessment report.
The three components of tue earthquake have been considered in the reassessment report. Two horizontal components have been considered to be acting simultaneously and the vertical component has been added thereto as an absolute sum or SRSS as appropriate.
Damping value of 7% has been considered in the reassessment work.
Tae damping value used is in accordance with Reg. Guide 1.61, since the Seismic Category I structures are of reinforced concrete con-struction and the structural elements are highly stressed for the site specific earthquake loading.

We have.not had to use the as-built-strengths of structures in justifying the adequacy of Seismic Category I structures and buried pipes and conduits as reassessed.
