Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Reactor Building Air remperature Detectors In response to your letter of April 10, 1981 and a discussion between Mr. D. DiIanni of your staff and representatives of CPU Nuclear on May 9, 1981, the following program description concerning the subject detectors is provided.
The purpose of our program is to show that adequate building cooling and air mixing exists in the reactor building to prevent degradation of the reactor building concrete (design thermal stress represented by a 90 F. differential temperature between inside and outside walls of the Reactor Building).
(Reactor building cooling and ventilation system is described in Section 9.8.3.1 of the THI-l FSAR.)
In order to demonstrate adequate coverage of the Reactor Building Air Temperature Detector Monitoring system, we propose to measure for the hottest air stream temperatures (presumably between the primary and secondary shields) during hot functional testing. Results of this confirmatory test will be provided to the NRC.
It is anticipated that these results will provide adequate technical justification for the existing temperature detector locations described in Technical Specification Change Request No. 92 dated April 11, 1980 (TLL 167).
