June 4, 1981 Mr. A. Schwencer, Chief Licensing Branch 2 Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Subject:

LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 Environmental Qualification of Safety-Related Equipment in Harsh Envioronments-Supplemental Report NRC Dock 7t Nos. 50-373/374 Reference (1):

L. O. DelGeorge letter to B. J. Youngblood dated March 27, 1981.

Dear Mr. Schwencer:

As was indicated in Reference (1), Commonwealth Edison has undertaken to perform a complete reappraisal of the environmental qualification of electrical equipment in harsh environments to the criteria defined by NUREG-0588 Category II.

This reappraisal, initiated based upon an informal request by the NRC Staff on February 13, 1981, further demonstrates the adequacy of the LaSalle County equipment.

This submittal confirms the results of the review previously conducted against the so-called 00R Guidelines defined in I.E. Bulletin 79-Olb, which led to the conclusion that the LaSalle County equipment was adequate for operation.

The summaries provided herein or in the format of the current Appendix M to the LaSalle County FSAR, and have been augmented to better represent the total documentation package available to support a finding of adequacy.

In that regard, roughly j

70% of the equipment evaluated are judged to satisfy the criteria defined by Category II of NUREG-0588.

The remaining equipment, though judged to be adequate still require additional documentation or testing to demonstrate conformance with the Category II criteria.

This record status is fully described in Section M.7.1 of the attached report.

The attached materials will be submitted formally as an update to Appendix M in Amendment 57 of the FSAR.

To facilitate your review, three (3) copies re being forwarded to Mr. M. Yost of EG&G Idaho, Inc., as requested by your Staff.
