Dear Senator Warner:
. 4, M.'k k,
Enclosed is a copy of a letter which I have written to the chairma'n of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission concerning the restart of the undamaged unit 1 nuclear generating facility at Three Mile Island.
I am writing you to request your support of placing the facility back into service after almost two years of delay.
It is my understanding that modifications to TMI-1 required as a result of the TMI-2 accident have been completed, and agreement exists among the technical review agencies that this facility can be safely operated.
Therefore it is wasteful to delay restarting the unit while replacement power is generated by burning OPEC oil.
I urge you to pressure the NRC to expedite restart of TMI-1 and to take the necessary remaining steps to license the newly completed nuclear generatirg facilities at Diablo Canyon (California), Salem (New Jersey), and Farley (Alabama).
Constituents are now v.atching Congress closely to see if politicians can put aside political squabbling and take some strong action to ease the price we pay for energy as well as the impact of inflation.
I believe demanding restart of TMI-1 is consistent with support of President Reagan's recovery program and achievement of his objectives for the ecor.cmy.
Thank you for considering my request, and for taking action Sincerely yours,
. bb-P W n Bri J
