Dear Mr. Campbell:
In your lett'er of April 10, 1981, you requested our advice concerning a proposed ferry terminal or access road in the vicinity of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station. We have assumed that the terminal would be for passenger ferries that would not transport significant quantities of explosive or toxic material s. Therefore, there are no regulations or criteria that would prohibit or restrict construction of a ferry terminal or access road, provided that they would be located outside of the Shoreham exclusion area. The exclusion area for Shoreham is that area within a 1000-foot radius of the centerline of the reactor building.
In addition, if the ferry terminal is located within 10 miles of the Shore-ham reactor, the terminal may require recognition as a special facility in the emergency plan for Shoreham.
If you have any further questions regarding the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station, you may contact Jerry Wilson the licensing project manager at (301) 492-8408.
A copy of your letter and this reply are being made available to LILC0 and other parties in the Shoreham case as well as being placed in our public document rooms.
Sincerely,
