DOCKET 50-155 - LICENSE DPR BIG ROCK POINT PLAITT - RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN NO 81 FAILURE OF GATE TYPE VALVES TO CLOSE AGAINST DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE IE Bulletin No 81-02, dated April 9, 1981, requested Consumers Power Company to ascertain whether valves manufactered by W-EMD (Table 1 of bulletin) or any BW-NVD valves are used in safety-related systems that are required to close with differential pressure across them or as PORV block valves.
A review of plant records has determined that none of the valves identified by the bulletin are used at Big Rock Point. Therefore, none of the additional information requested is provided. A similar concern has been previously iden-tified at Big Rock Point which involved 6", 1500#, single disc Anchor dam.ing isolation valves in the Reactor Depressurization System. The valve manufacturer has been contacted and concludes that the valves vill close as intended.
Consumers Power Co=pany is continuing its evaluation of the isolation valves adequar y.
It is estimated that che review and preparation of the report required by this bulletin required approximately 16 man hours.
