Dear Mr. Brown:
Last week I had a visit from an inspector from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission from King of Prussia, Pennsylv;nia. We discussed the problem that we have here in clarifying the status and usage of our Pu-Be neutron source. We both agreed that it would be the best thing to keep the source at our facility. The storage for the source had been especially built for it at the time of the construction of the science building.
In the last 7 or 8 years we have not used the source, but since the number of students started increasing we might eventually use it again.
Therefore, I propose that we renew our license which expired on February 28, 1975. The original license was issued on February 2,1970 under the number SNM-450, docket # 70-474 for 32 grams of enclosed plutonium Pu-Be neutron source. The source container has been last leak tested in 1974 and had less than 4.5 x 10-6 uries.
Please advise us as to your opinion. We would like to conclude this matter l
as soon as possibic.
