Dear Sir:
Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 2 (TMI-2)
Operating License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 Special Panel Report - Exposure Tracking The purpose of this letter is to clarify our position and intent with regard to our commitrent on Exposure Tracking in response to the Special Panel Report. Our letter, LL2-81-0004, dated January 9, 1981 stated that we were presently working to expand the scope of the COMEC computer code to be used with a personnel cxposure tracking method. It also stated that it was intended to have this system operational by the end of May, 1981. Our letter, LL2-81-0054, stated that Exposure tracking by work group and major tasks was accomplished by April 1, 1980 as originally scheduled and that tracking by task was available on a limited basis, but that delays were being encountered in modifying COMEC to provide detailed exposure tracking.
l Currently, there are systems in place that track personnel exposure l
by work category and major task as stated. There is also c. method of i
tracking personnel exposures by specific tasks, although this system is limited. These systems are adequate co track the. personnel exposures encountered in our current activities. As stated in LL2-81-0054, it was our intent to modify the COMEC system to provide a i
more detailed brealdown of personnel exposures into small sub task and work group. This would provide increased tracking capabilities l
when containment activities increase. These modifications were l
scheduled to be completed by May 31, 1981.
Attempts to modify COMEC to perform the detailed task breakdowns have been unsuccessful to this point due to the differences in task identification methods and limitations in the current COMEC code.
Ng Work is ccatinuing toward modifying COMEC. Additiotially, work is being done to develop a new computer system to enhance the current

In the interim, the current method of exposure tracking will continue.
