Dear Mr. Nelson:

The Huclear Regulatory Commission requires information on endangered species occurring in and around the area of Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS) and its associated transmission lines. The Wolf Creek Generating Station is currently in the Operating Licensing Review stage.

The WCGS is located in central Coffey County in east central Kansas. The 5090 acre Wolf Creek Cooling Lake is located along Wolf Creek within aiid

and Electric Co. and the Kansas City Power and Light Co. Wolf Creek is a tributary of the Niosho River. The station site is located approxima.tely 75 miles southwest of Kansas City, 53 miles south of Topeka, and 90 miles east-northeast of Wichita. The attached maps show the relationship of the site to the surrounding area.

This letter constitutes a formal request for consultation with, tnd the assistance of the Department of the Interior in furtherance of the purposes of the 1978 amendments to the Endangered Species Act. Pursuant to Section 7(c) of the Act, please forward informa, ion as to whether any plants and animals that are listed or proposed to be listed as endangered or threatened species may be present in the vicinity of the area discussed aLove.
