Dear Mr. Slonaker:
This is in response to your letter of April 2,1981 in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, copies of docucents pertaining to the January 3, 1961 explosion at the Stationary Low Power (SL-1)
Reactor at Idaho Falls, Idaho.
We wish to inform you that in a previous F0IA request identified as F01A-79-112 (HUNTER), copies of NRC documents relating to the SL-1 incident were placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR),1717 H Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20555, where they are available for public inspection and copying. The charge for reproducing records located in the PDR is five cents ($0.05) per page, as specified in 10 CFR 9.14(a) of the Commission's regulations.
Copies of these documents can be purchased by writing directly to the PDR. The number of pages per document is indicated on the attachment to our response letter dated April 25,1979, copy of which is enclosed. Upon your agreement to pay the reproduction charges, the PDR will arrange for the records to be reproduced by Literature Research Company, a private reproduction contractor servicing the PDR. You will be billed by Literature Research Company for the reproduction charges, plus tax and postage.
In addition, please find enclosed our response letter (F01A-79-124) to Mr. W. Alexander Williams, with attached memorandum to C. D. Thornton from S. H. Hanauer.
We believe the Department of Energy may be your best source for documents relating to SL-1 incident since that facility was not a licensed facility subject to the former AEC's regulatory activities, which were transferred to the NRC in 1975.
You should direct your request to Mr. Milton Jordan, Director, Division of F0I & PA Activities, Department of Energy,1000 Independence Avenue, S.W., Washington, DC 20585.
This completes NRC action on your request.
