Enclosed please find data developed for the purp s,q;,~ i ! L of measuring U-235 content in floor tiles and concrete which will be generated as a result of our ongoing decommissioning effort.

It is our intent to measure this material using non destructive assay (drum counter).

.If levels exceed the range of calibration, the drums will be broken down into two or more components and recounted.

Isotopic determi-nations will be made by dissolving a minimum of five randomly selected samples representing different loca-tions within the process area and submitting the samples to a qualified lab for mass spec analysis.

l As this submittal does not decrease the effectiveness of the nuclear material control program, no license fee is being submitted consistent with your letter of March 20, 1979.

Subject:

Cement Calibration for U-235 1,

Purpose:

To develop a standard curve in order to establish measurements of U-235 in concrete material being_ discarded as a result of the decommissioning program.

Procedure:

Clean cement blocks'were broken up and placed in a 55 gallon drum.

Known quantities of U-235 (in strip form) were then added to the drum in a random fashion.

A series of'20 counts was then taken with the positioning of the strips being changed every 5 or 6 counts.

The statistical average was then calculated and plotted.

Data:
