SUBJECT:

FINDINGS RELATED TO THE PROPOSED IMPORT OF 6

URANIUM AT 3.1% FROM SWEDEN - ISNM81006 Westinghouse Electric Corporation submitted an application on March 27, 1981 for a license authorizing the import of 2,146 kilograms of uranium enriched to 3.1% U-235 from Sweden. The material is in the form of UO2 powder.

Transportation will be by sea to Port of Entry and by truck to Columbia, South Carolina. Packaging is the Model BU-7 IAEA USA /9019/B(

)F containers.

The import of low-enriched uranium in its various forms has been assessed many times in the past. This proposed import essentially is the same as previous reouests, and represents no material change in circumstances from conditions and findings which existed at the time of the earlier imports, for example, ISNM78020, ISNM79019, and ISNM80007.

The staff finds that this import will not be inimical to the connon defense and security, or constitute an undue risk to the public health and safety or to the environment.
