- ga 3 O Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1) i Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Scram Setpoints This letter is in response to your letter of January 14, 1981 concerning the possible non-conservatism of the scram setpoints for certain transients compared to those assumed in the safety analysis.
GPU is initiating an analytical investigation of the problem with the assistance of B&W.
This investigation will determine if the high flux trip setpoint for TMI-1 is affected by the accident-induced neutron flux errors discussed in your letter.
Information from the investigation will either establish that present accident and transient analysis are valid and that the present Techni-cal Specification limits provide as a minimum the original prctective =argin or will define the affect on our plant and define the program and schedule for mitigating the effects of this error. The results of this investigation are expected to be available for submission to the NRC by June 12, 1981.
TMI-1 is now shut down and this analysis would be completed before reactor startup.
If startup is anticipated before resolution of this item then GPU will offer justification of full power operation pending completion of this program.
