Dear Mr. Denton:

ULNRC-DOCKET NUMBERS 50-483 AND 50-486 CALLAWAY PLANT UNITS 1 & 2 CONSTRUCTION PERMIT NOS. CPPR-139 & CPPR-140 In accordance with Item 3.E.(7) of the Construction Permits for Callaway Plant Units 1 & 2, the monitoring programs summarized in Section 6 of the Final Environmental Statement must be conducted.

Union Electric Company hereby requests relief from this requirement as it pertains to nonradiological environmental monitoring on the basis that sufficient aquatic and terrestrial monitoring has already been conducted and that additional monitoring is unwarranted except where required by the State of Missouri.

The enclosed report submitted in support of this request, explains that existing monitoring data and programs required by other authorities are adequate to measure and project the environmental impacts from the plant's construction and operation.

Further nonradiological monitoring is therefore generally not warranted for environmenta) assessment purposes.

i Your prompt consideration of this request is appreciated.

Ver truly yours, l

I
