Submerged De=ineralizer Systes During,_ discussions with e=bers of ycur staff, we have been requested to provide our staf fing level cc=itzents during SDS cperations. This letter responds to that request.

During system operational periods staffing vill be:

Two (2) system cperators One (1) chemistry technician One (1) health physics technician Systes cperators are prcvided to scnitor system operations, to perform required valve =anipulations, spent vessel devatering, icn exchanger changecuts, and equip =ent start / step operatiens. Systes operaters will be trained to all specific functional require:ents for SDS cperations.

System operaccrs will not perfer: functions for which they are not qualified.

System cperations supervisica vill e= anate frc= the shif t foreman.

He will direct processing cperations frem the control recs; he has the ever-all respcnsibility for conduct of safe cperatices.

The chemistry technician vill obtain samples of the process fluid frc: the various sample locations.

He will be assigned to support SDS cperatiens on a full time basis during system operation, if required.

If necessary, additional chemistry technicians will be provided en a part time basis.

One health physics technician will be assigned to SDS cn a full time basis while processing, if required.

He is responsible for:

u Mr. Lake Barrett LL2-81-0101 (1) Monitoring general area radiation levels.

(2) Obtaining swipe samples.

(3) Obtaining airborne particulate and tritium samples.

If necessary, he will be augmented on a part-time basis for completion of tne required work.

During those periods when processing of fluid is stopped, periodic visual surveillance of the fuel pool area will be conducted.

In addition, airborne particulate end tritium monitoring will continue and swipe samples will be obtained. General area radiation monitoring will continue.
