We received your letter dated March 19, 1981, which requested an amendment to License SNM-1067 to allow additional storage of fuel assemblies. Accompanying your letter was a check in the amount of $1,400, based on your classification of the request as a minor safety amendment.
Due to the complexity of the request, the Licensing staff has reclassified your request from a minor amendment to a major safety environmental amendment.
Consequently, a major amendment fee of $34,600 is due as specified in fee Category 18 of 5170.31 of Part 170. The Licensing staff has further infonned us, however, that they estimate the total cost to complete the review of your request will be considerably less than the $34,600 specified for a major amendment. Therefore, instead of our requesting that you remit the additional
$33,200 at this time, we will, prior to issuance of the amendment, notify you of the actual costs incurred in the review in accordance with Footnotes 1(d) and 4 of Section 170.31, and collect the additional fee due at that time.
