Dear Mr. Chairman:
f-a We strenuously oppose making the Cordova, II., nuc reactor site a radioactive dump.
It is our understanding (see Moline Daily Dispatch, Sunday, March 15, 1981) that " Commonwealth Edison Co. will ask the federal Atomic Safety and Licensing Board later this month for permission to more than double the capacity of the Quad-Cities Nuclear Power Station's spent-fuel pools."
' This would be a disasterous development for the whole Quad-Cities area.
Now that the federal government has abandoned its plans for storage at Morris, II., it is no time to start playing a shell game with the other Illinois sites.
It's time for a nuclear moratorium in the state of Illinois until the storage / transit issile can be resolved.
The most recent radioactive steam incident.at the Cordova plant Thursday, March 12, just dramatizes further the gravity of the situation that gets worse instead of better.
I Sincerely, I
[.
