In Octeter of 1977, as a part of the protection against uncontrolled spread cf nuclear material in the event ofJa carthquake, Lake Lee was ordered to be drained. At that time.there was an operating laboratory in the basement of Building 102 which hap,'in process, more than a formula quantig cf nuclear materials. That building is do m grade from the lake bed.

In August of 1979 the process lines in the Advanced Fuel Laboratory were emptied and the process lines were shut down. All SMI except a small quantig was returned to the DCE.

A* this time decomissioning and decon-tartination was begun. On August 4,1930 we shipped 59S grams of Pu to IEE, Los Ala os.

Currently in the basement vault in the Advanced Fuels Laboratory there are caly 25 zrams of Pu (no enriched uranium), which are sealed in eight NDA standards. Tnese can in no way present the kind of hazard potential of the thcusands of grams of "in process material" in use during 1977.
