Dear Mr. Rouse:

As discussed with Mr. Tom Clark of your staff, we request clarifi-cation on provisions for storage of Waste Fcrm Process (WFP) containers in the transfer canal of our facility.
The WFP containers are 3" 0.D.
by approximately 15" high, 1icensed for up to 200 grams U-235 per container as described in our June 2, 1980 submittal. We propose to temporarily store these containers in racks in the transfer canal after removing the containers from the hot cells in preparation for loading into a shipping cask.
The racks to be used are of a rigid construction, designed for storing MTR fuel elements on 6" centers.
No reactor fuel elements will be in the racks where WFP containers are being stored. The WFP containers will be stacked two high in positions of the racks which provide greater than 12" edge to edge separation of the containers. A plate with cut outs will be placed over the racks to prevent inadvertently loading con-tainers into other positions or bringing other fissile material within 12" of the racks.
A check in the amount of $150.00 is attached for an administrative amount fee pursuant to CFR Part 170.
