Dear Sir:

We have carefully evalua ted your reques t of providing pos t-tes t prediction results for LOFT L3-1 and S-07-10D tes ts [ Re fer en ce (c)l.

Th is letter presen ts our res pense to your reques t.

As we poin ted out to Dr. Sheron of your sti ff, Yankee Ato=ic Electric Company did not pa r ti ci pa te in the pre-tes t prediction of LOFT L3-1 or S-07-10D tests.

Any analysis for these tes ts will require us to start th e work from a very initial stage.

Nodalization work will have to be completed.

The s teady s ta te calcula tions represen ting the tes t opera ting conditions will h.ve to be perforred.

In our opinion, th is is a major task and we cant.ot complete it by April 1,1981.

As you know, Yank ee is partici pa ting in LOFT L3-6 pos t-tes t predictions as required by NRC.

We have exercised our currently licensed code (RELAP 4/ MOD 3 based) as well as RELAP 5/ MOD 1 for the LOFT L3-6 prediction.

Th is prediction will aid our dec i s ion in choosing either RELAP 4 or RELAP 5 to perform future plan t specific Small Break Analyses.

The selected code will be modi fieJ as required, to account for post-TMI concerns and to meet Appendix K cr ite r ia.

We plan to review LOFT L3-1, LOFT L3-5 and S-07-10D tes ts in order to select a suitable candida te for the verification of our Small Break LOCA ce th odol o gy.

The tes t selected will be analyzed and the predictions will be s en t to you before January 1, 1982.

Th is schedule is in agreement with the requiremen ts set for th in II. K. 3. 30 o f NUREC-073 7.
