Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No, 1 Docket No. 50-334, License No. DPR-66 IE Bulletin 80-11 Gentlemen:

This letter is to provide the status of our efforts required by IE Bulletin 80-11, " Masonry Wall Design".

In our previous response. (dated February 2,1981) to the subject Bulletin, we stated that fif teen (15) out of a total of 108 masonry walls had failed to meet our acceptance criteria and would be subject to further evaluation.

It should be noted here that a failure to meet our acceptance criteric does not necessarily indicate that a failure of the wall would occur.

A safety evaluation was performed to determine what ef fect, if any, the failure of the walls could have on any safety related systems or equipment.

This evaluation has been completed and was revieved by the Onsite Safety Comittee on Fabrimry 20, 1981. Based on the safety evaluation report for the postalated wall failures and a review of potentially affected systems, it was determined that there was no safety related equiprent as required by the plant technical Specifications that would be rendered inoperable upon failure of the identified walls.

Modifications necessary to bring the walls to within the allowable values of our evaluation criteria are being designed. Work ott these modifications will be scheduled as soon as the approved changes are received at the plant. Work will begin, plant ecnditions permitting, pending availability of funds and personnel to perform these tasks.

This was discussed with our Resident Inspector on February 18-20, 1981 and it was agreed that the report will be submitted at a later date, not to exceed March 13, 1981.

If you have any questions concerning this response, please contact my office.

Very truly yours, f
