Mr. John F. Stolz, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #4 Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.
20555 Daar Mr. Stolz:
This is in response to Mr. Robert W. Reid's letter dated February 5, 1981 (Log No. 654) relating to the NRC review of bypass and reset capabil-ities of engineered safety features at Davis-Besse. The attachment to this letter identified two concerns relating to inconsistencies in the assignment of safety actuation signals to output modules 121 and 122.
The attach =ent to this letter indicated that the basis for these inconsis-tencies was in drawings S9N16-1, S9N16-2 and FSAR figure 7-5A.
We have reviewed the subject letter and the attacFaent thereto.
Our July 23, 1980 (Serial No. 635) letter referenced the EI&C package to assist the NRC in the review of this subject.
Based on our review of your letter, we have concluded that proper revisions of some of the EI&C drawings were not used for performance c: this review.
The SFAS internal circuit drawings S9N16-1 through 4 are part of the EI&C pactsge.
The current revisions of the SFAS drawings in the EI&C package are Revision F for S9N16-1 and Revision E for S9N16-2.
These were submitted to the NRC as part of Revision 14 to the FSAR on July 15, 1975.
Two (2) copies of these drawings (Revision F for S9N16-1, sheets 1 through 5, and Revision E for S9N16-2, sheets 1 through 5) are enclosed to facilitate continuation of your review. The inconsistencies cited in the NRC letter are a'.eviated by these revisions. We believe that this submittal should adequately resolve your concerns and sctisfactorily complete your review of the reset and bypass capabilities of the engineered safety features at Davis-Besse 1.
Yours very truly, Wl p hW
