d Docket No. 50-364 q,
Director, Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C.
20555 Attention: Mr. A. T. Schwencer Gentlemen:
Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant - Unit 2 Subcooling Meter Modifications Item 2.C(15) of the Farley Nuclear Plant Unit 2 draft full power license requires modifications to be completed to the subcooling meter by May 1, 1981.
During the licensing process for Farley Unit 2, Alabama Power Company stated that the equipment for these modifications was scheduled for shipment by our NSSS Vendor during April, 1981. At that time this schedule was based on the best ship date our NSSS Vendor (Westinghouse) received from their subvendor supplying the components for these modifi-cations. The subvendor has a history of slipping promised ship dates, thereby reducing our confidence in the currently scheduled ship date of April 16, 1981 although this schedule has been confirmed in writing.
In addition to receiving the equipment required for the subject modification, the design change must be reviewed by the Plant Operations Review Committee, equipment installed and tested under the purview of our Operations Quality Assurance Program.
Based on the above time to receive and implement the required equip-ment and design changes, it is improbable that Alabama Power Company can complete the subject modifications by May 1, 1981 even if the equipment is received on schedule.
It is requested that item 2.C(15) of the full power license state that subcooling modifications will be completed by May 31, 1981.
In the interim every effort will be made to expedite the delivery of the equipment to preclude further schedule slippage.
