-#.~,i Report 3 ' O' NRC Docket No. 50-254
Dear Mr. Ippolito:
Attached is a summary of the findings of the ultrasonic inspections of Quad Cities Station, Unit 1, LPA, LPB, and LPC rotors.
These results were previously reported to the NRC Staff verbally on the dates listed below:
LP-A October 2, 1980 LP-B November 8, 1980 LP-C November 25, 1980 The attached Table 1 gives a complete description of the indications found.
The physical properties for those wheels with indications will be submitted directly by General Electric in accoroance with their existing proprietary agreement with the NRC.
l We have performed calculations to determine the reinspection interval for the Unit 1 L.P. turbines.
We used the NRC acceptance criteria which states that a disc which contains inoications must be reinspected in one half the time calculated to reach one half the critical crack size.
Using General Electric's most recent Acr and the NRC's Upper Bound Crack Grnwth Rates Curve initialed by Warren Hazelton on June 16, 1980, we calculated the minimum reinspection interval to be 86 months, based on the worst, or limiting, wheel.
If you have any questions please contact this office.
Very truly yours, Robert F. Janecek Nuclear Licensing Administrator

EXPLANATION OF TABLE l_
KEYWAY ULTRASONIC Ih01CAliON SUM'ARY W
Table 1 (Keysay Ultrasonic Indicatica Sumary) contains the measured depths and locations of ultrasonic indications detected on the keysays.
The table includes the following of the subfec : shrunk-cn wheels.
information foi each wheel with keysay ultrasonic indicaticas.
H: Axial length of the upstream hub 7: Axial length of the web, at the hub diameter.
.The approximate circumferential 1ccatica of the Locatien Zone (A-E)_:
indication relative to the leading edge of the keysay (as viewed with normal rotorrotation).
(.
Ai:-Tne caximum indicacien depth as measured with a radially directed ultrasonic beam.

Additional cements have been included as available.
Coments_:
In cases where indicaticns detected by the hub and web tests appear ble.
