j Docket No. 50-382 yAn il 1981 APPLICANT:

Louisiana Power and Light Company FACILITY:

Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit No. 3

SUBJECT:

SUNiARY OF JANUARY 7,1931 MEETING WITH APPLICANT TO DISCUSS THEIR TR.\\lNING PROGRAM The NRC staff met with the appifcant on January 7,1981 in Bethesda, Maryland to dis::uss their training program for the operators of Waterford Unit 3.

A-list of attendees is included as Enclosure 1.

The Training Director presented the training program which they intend to use for the Waterford Plant Operators. They have previously submitted a plan which has been approved by the staff, but which now must incorporate the requirements of NUREG-0737. The applicant is considering completely rewriting the Chapter 13.2 of FSAR, rather than adding sections to cover TMI training.

This would eleminate any discrepancies and make the chapter more readable.

However, they expressed some concern that this would lengthen the review process.

Their new plan will be submitted by mirt-March.

Their purpose in holding this meeting was to get feedback on whether their cold licensing training plan is satisfactory and whether the educational requirements could be satisfied via their training plan. From the information presented at the meeting, the staff believes that their plan will be acceptabie but could not comment on the educational requirements. The applicant was advised to submit their educational proposals as an appendix to the plan.

The applicant also asked about the requirements for the Shift Technical l

Advisor, but was told that the NRC staff present at the meeting were not cognizant of those requirements.
