Dear Mr. Grier:

This letter is to provide you with information concerning proposed support modifications to one primary containment atmospheric control line on each Peash Bottom unit in the are of the isolation valves.

A review of the seismic qualifications of the primary containment purge and vent valves at PBAPS Units 2 and 3 conducted by our architect-engineer identified several deficiencies as described in LER 2-81-13/IP, dated February 4, 1981.

As a result of the analytical engineering e va lu a t i on s being performed during this review, it was determined that the piping in the area of two pairs of isolation valves (Ao 2506 & A0 2507 on Unit 2 and AO 3506 & A0 3507 on Unit 3) does not meet the specific FEAR stress criteria for the design basis earthquake (DBE).

However, this piping is considered operable because the l

expected stress for a DBE is less than the actual yield stress l

for the material based on certified caterial test reports.

The expected DBE stre2s based on analysis of the piping is 41,642 psi c mpared with the actual yield st.ess of the material which is 43,600 no..
