VI.8 Reactor Operator / Senior Reactor Operator Requalification Program i
A.
Schedule The requalification program shall be conducted for a con-tinuous period not to exceed two years, and upon completion will be promptly followed by successive requalification programs.
B.
Lectures A series of eight lectures covering the following areas shall be conducted over the license period:
1.
Reactor theory and principles of operation 2.
Reactor systems 3.
Radiation safety 4.
Routine experiments 5.
Infrequent operations 6.
Technical specifications 7.
Applicable portions of Title 10, CFR 8.
Emergency / abnormal procedures (reviewed every three months at required reactor operator meetings.
C.
Reactor Operations 1.
Each reactor operator and senior reactor operator shall complete a minimum of one complete reactor startup, and shutdown every four months.
2.
At least one startup and shutdown performed by a reactor operator during the four month period will be supervised and evaluated by a senior reactor operator.
3.
At least one startup and shutdown performed by a senior reactor operator during the four month period will be supervised and evaluated by the reactor supervisor.
D.
Document Review 1.
Each operator shall review the contents of all emergency and abnormal procedures every three months.
2.
All operators shall be cognizant of facility technical specifications, design and procedural changes a a
timely manner.
E.
Evaluation 1.
Annual comprehensive written exam shall be administered during the first quarter of the year, An overall grade of less than 70* shall require removal a.
from licensed duties and placement on an accele;ated requalification program until satisfactory performance has been certified by the Reactor Supervisor as evidenced by the individual successfully completing a comprehensive written examination b.
An overall grade of 70% or greater shall be con-sidered passing.

F.
Absence f rom Authorized Activities An individual who has not been actively performing his certified functions for a period in excess of four months shall:
1.
Perfstm a minimum of four complete reactor startups under observation of the Reactor Supervisor or a designated senior reactor operator.
2.
Review all normal and emergency operating procedures s.nd evaluation by the Reactor Supervisor or a desig-aated senior Leactor operator.
3.
Satisfactorally complete a comprehensive written exam.
G.
Exemptions 1.
As the administrator of the requalification program, the Reactor Supervisor is exempt f rom the written examination.
2.
The reactor supervisor may designate one senior reactor operator to prepare and grade the annual written comprehensive exam. This disignated senior reactor operator shall be exempt from the written exam during that year.
3.
Any operator successfully completing the comprehensive written exam or an NRC licensine exam af ter August of the previous year is exemot from the first quarter annual exam of the present year.
H.
Records 1.
The following records shall be maintained o~n each licensed operator for 2 years or permanent removal of the operator from licensed duties, whichever is the shorter period.

Reactor operator meeting minutes with a summary of lecture topics that were discussed.
