OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY WASHINGTON, D.C.

ER 80/1536 FEB
- 19 0I Mr.
B.
J. Youngblood Chief, Licensing Branch No. 1 Division of Licensing Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.
20555
Dear Mr. Youngblood:
l The Department of the Interior has reviewed the draft supplement i
to the final environmental statement for Allens Creek Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1 Austin County, Texas.
We have the following comments.
The status of the archeological survey of the proposed barge landing site is unclear.
The text, on page 3-8, states that no cultural remains were foundsin the project area and that further investigation is not needed.
However, the letter from the State Historic Preservation Officer (Appendix C) states that the " survey of sites in the area...has not been completed."
The status of survey work in the area should be clarified in the final statement.
The final statement should also state that cultural remains encountered during construction should be reported to the Secretary of the Interior through the Departmental Consulting Archeologist, Interagency Archeological Services, Washington, D.C.
(202) 343-7105.
I We hope these comments will be of assistance to you.
