James F Ahearne Chairman U S Nuclear Regulatory Cc:: mission 1717 H Street, NW Washington, DC 20555 RE: DOCKET 50-289SP, TM1-Unit 1, Middletown, PA Since Three Mile Island Unit 1, now closed by the Nuclear Re6ulatory Ccamission, was n:t involved or damaged in the sceident at TMI Unit 2 in Farch 1979, the Us Government should without hesitation 1:: mediately permit the operation of said TMI-1, the imdm ged unit, during any remaining modifications.
As you know, other similar nuclear plants are operating elsewhere while being modified. The US Government's discriminatory and irrational action in stopping the operation of said 'IMI-1 is needlessly costing both Metropolitan Edisen and its customers thousands of dollars each day to purchase more expensive fuel.
The NRC has waited too long to decide the fate of TMI-1 and it needs to be restarted without further delay.
Sincerely
