. r I&E BULLETIN 80-21 LONG ISLAND LIGHTING COMPANY SHOREHAM NUCLEAR POWER STATION - UNIT 1 Docket No. 50-322

Dear Mr. Grier:

The subject bulletin has requested that a determination be made concerning the possibility of having active valves in safety-

, related systems containing parts cast by Malcolm Foundry Company Inc. The bulletin further requests that, if so determined, such parts shall be evaluated for potentially faulty material and the manufacturer of the valves be identified.

In response to the aforementioned requests, all suppliers of valves for safety-related end use at Shoreham have been requested to confirm the use/non use of parts cast by Malcolm Foundry. To date, of all suppliers contacted, only Anchor Darling has declared the use of such parts. With respect to the Anchor Darling valves, it has been determined that ten (10) valves contain components supplied by Malcolm Foundry and are all located in the lEll Resi-dual Heat Removal System. The valves and suspect parts are identified in the following table.

If such is not the case, the defective materials will be replaced.

In the event that any of the other valve suppliers confirm the use of parts cast by Malcolm Foundry, a subsequent response to Bulletin 80-21 will be provided.

We trust that the above has been responsive to your request.

Should you desire additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Very uly yours, C
