Dear Sir:

By letter dated November 13, 1980, you transmitted the revised and final edition of Nureg-0619, "BWR Feedwater Nozzle and Control Rod Drives Return Line Nozzle Cracking". Licensees were requested to furnish confimation that the implementation dates for modifications, will be made in accordance with the Nureg-0619 schedule. Accordingly, the following items were iden-l tified as requiring modifications in order to comply with the Nureg-0619 requirements and are scheduled for completion by June 30, 1983:

Rerouting of the existing Reactor Water Cleanup (RWCUS) l return line such that RWCUS return water is routed to all feedwater nozzles.

2.

The existing Feedwater "startup" (Bypass) regulating valve which is currently a manual control valve will be modified to provide for automatic low flow control over a range of approximately 15% flow.

a) The installation of an equalizing valve between the cooling water header and the nomal drive move-ment exhaust water header and the replacement of carbon steel piping in the flow stabilizer loop, if flow is not to be maintanined on the Control Rod O

BEco Ltr. #81-16 The staff encouragement for further developnent, installation and use of on-line leakage measuring systems for possible future relaxation of in-service inspection requirements warrants further investigation, and therefore, Boston Edison Company cannot commit to such a modification at this time.
