Portland General ElectricCcmpany r -E January 30, 1981 Trojan Nuclear Plant Docket 50-344 License NPF-1 License Change Application 63 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation ATTN:
Mr. Robert A. Clark, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 3 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555
Dear Sir:
Specification 4.2.3.4 in the Radiological Environmental Section of Appendix B to the Trojan Operating License, FOL NPF-1, requires that samples be taken at the radiological environmental monitoring locations shown in Table 4.2 of Appendix B.
Table 4.2 identifies a well-water sample location at Site 6A, Goble. In late 1980 the Oregon Star.e Health Division condemned the well at Site 6A, which resulted in the well being sealed such that sampling af ter September 1980 has been impossible.
In accordance with Sections 4.2.3.4 and 5.5.3(b) of Appendix B of the Trojan FOL NPF-1, you are hereby advised that well-water samples are no longer being taken from this sampling location. As a suitable alternative to this site, quarterly well-water samples will be taken at Site 6B, Goble, starting in March 1981.
A revised Table 4.2 of Appendix B is attached to this letter which reflects the above change and other corrections in sampling locations.
The other corrections to Table 4.2 are discussed below:
1.
Site 15, Kelso, has been replaced by Site 65, Totem Pole Dairy, for milk sample in accordance with letter to Mr. A. Schwencer, NRC, from C. Goodwin, Jr., PGE, on November 30, 1979.
C07 2.
Si*;e 17, Palmer Dairy, has been replaced by Site 17A, S
Kandle Dairy, in accordance with letter to Mr. A. Schwencer, NRC, from C. Goodwin, J.
PGE, on August 3, 1979.

Mr. Robert A. Clark January 30, 1981 Page two 3.
Surface water sampling has been changed from Site CR1, Rainier, to Site CR2, i.indberg, and from Site CRS, Woodland, to Site CR4,falama. This has been done to provide surface water sampling closer (upstream and downstream) to the Trojan Nuclear Plant outf all (Site CR3, Trojan).
4.
The table location information has been provided for
~
sites:
lJ, Trojan Site; 65, Totem Pole Dairy; 16, Smith Dairy; 17A, Kandle Dairy; 18, Standard Dairy; and 19, Portland.
5.
Some miscellaneous spelling errors have been corrected.
Inasmuch as License Change Application 63 is pending NRC approval, it would be appreciated if the corrected Table 4.2 (as attached) could be included in the revision to Appendix B associated with that amendment.
Sincerely, I
Bart D. Withers Vice President Nuclear Attachment j
