Dear Mr. Grier:
The following is an informational report concerning fish impingement at Connecticut Yankee during December 1980.
On December 17, 1980, 1,023 fish were impinged on the intake screens within Numbers The fish were counted, measured and identified to specis.

of spottail shiners, Notropis hudsonius total 1,004 with 19 other fish representing six other species. On the night of December 18-19, 1980, abnormally large numbers of fish were observed and another count was made The time period of the sample was determined on the morning of the 19th.

Sunday, December 21, 1930, a count was not made but control room personnel estimated a total of 285 fish impinged. Twenty four hour counts were made on the following three days resulting in 486,156 and 394 fish impinged respectively.
Increased impingement rates of spotta11 shiners have been noted in previous is not be? teved to have years during the December-Januarf period, and it Historically, represented an adverse effect on the local aquatic environment. fish in the Connecticut R N. hudsonius has been the dominant period (American Fisheries Society Monograph #1, "The Connecticut River Spottail shinera accounted for over 89%
