FIRST INTERIM REPORT Description of Deficiency In a number of TVA nuclear plant systems, fillet welds were specified in
~
lieu of beveled gecove welds, to connect =e=bers whose angle of inte. -
section is outside the li=its for fillet weld application as stipulated in the A=erican Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Stardards. The AISC Standard states that the welds which are =ade joining F. embers at an angle of 60 or less are to be defined as acute angle welds. Acute angle welds should be specified as beveled groove welds according to AISC.
Interim Progress TVA is in the process of evaluating the AISC Standards and the affected welds in order to determine a satisfactory resolution.
