Dear Mr. Ahearne:
I have been contacted by numerous concerned citizens regarding the nuclear raae cperated by the Az:ned Fcrees Fadinhiology Research Institute (AFERI) cn the grounds of the National Naval N4_r al Center in Bethesda, Maryland. 'Ihe citizens have raised a number of legiti-mate concerns over the health and safety risks created by cperaticn of the reactor.-
It is my understanding that relicensing proceedings for this facility are currently underway. I believe it is vital to public ccnfidence in the safety of the AFERI project that fv11_public hear-ings be held prior to the decisicn en relicensing. The seri6dsness of this situaticn also merits the under&g of a ccr:plete Envircn-l mental Impact Statement to assess fu ny the ramifications of h fic.tuty's presence in a residential area, I am hopeful that ycu will respond positively to the expressions I
