RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN 79-01B - ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF CLASS lE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT IE Bulletin 79-01B, dated February 9, 1979, along with its subsequent supplements required us to address your questions on environmental qualification of Class 1E electrical equipment for both our Big Rock Point and Palisades nuclear facilities.
Consumers Power Company is involved in the SEP program for both our operating Plants and is meeting the requirements of the subject bulletin through electrical equipment qualification (EEQ) submittals to the NRC on October 7, 1980 and October 30, L980 (Rev 1) for the Palisades Plant and October 31, 1980 for the Big Rock Point Plant.
Our letter dated November 26, 1980 provided our understanding and actions to be taken with respect to the latest h7C Order on EEQ (dated October 24, 1980) to modify the operating license of both Plants.
We believe that the actions we are taking to address the EEQ issue meet the NRC requirements and since both the Palisades and Big Rock Point Plants are in the Systematic Evaluation Program, separate specific responses to IE Bulletin 79-OlB and its supplements are not necessary at this time.
