OF MEETING HELD OCTOBER 9,1980 TO DISCUSS GE0 LOGY /
SEISMOLOGY MATTERS A meeting was held on October 9,1980, in Bethesda, between members of the NRC staff with a consultant from LASL and representatives of South Carolina Electric and Gas along with their consultants from the University of South Carolina, Gilbert Associates and Dames and Moore. A listing of those in attendance is atti.ched as an enclosure. The topic discussed was the geology and seismology review.
Summary of Meetina The principal topic for discussion was induced seisnicity from the Monticello Reser.oir and specifically how this seismic activity relates to the plant design. The basis for discussion was the applicant's responses to staff requests for additional information 361.13 thru 361.22. These responses were discussed at length and appeared to be generally adequate to the staff.
However, the missing element in the discussion was that the applicant had not selected the postulated seismic event to be used as the design basis for the plant and a coordinated discussion to support that position. The applicant and their consultants agreed to meet again with the staff on these matters. At the next meeting the applicant will take a position and support that position with a technical justification.
