hN-LOO Series 1 5 nipping Cask Orawings (C001-5-9125 thru C001-5-9127) 1.
Most dimensions shown on the drawings were marked as reference dimensions.
Some of these dimensi'ans have been used in the safety analysis and thus, they do affect the safety of the package (e.g., tiedown lug offset, edge distance of lift lug, etc.). Therefore, an upper limit of how much these reference dimensions may change must be established and the safety analysis should be based on the most unfavorable condition.
2.
Provide the magnitude of the allowable design tolerances for those dimensions marked with an asterisk (*).
Analysis 3.
Tiedown lug offset is 1.75" instead of 1.625".
This small discrepancy, however, represents an increase of stress of 7.7% over a situation under which the shell is already badly overstressed (e.g., safety factors = 0.96 and 0.89 for A516 Grade 55 steel).
Please provide additional analysis, not qualitative statements, to show the integrity of the cask would not be impaired.
4.
The equations for Mx, M&, Nx and N& shown on pages A-19 and A-20 cannot be verified.
Please provide the derivations of these equations and a sketch of the x and & direction with respect to the cask.
