sear Mr. Ahearne,
'N Located in Middletown, Pennsylvania, are two ncneperating nuclear units.
Ore of these units, Three Mile Island Unit One, is a licensed reacter whic.h is located in close proximity to its sister unit, Three Mile Island Unit Two.
Unlike its sister unit, hcwever; it is not operating due in large part to regulatory reticence.
This is an OUTRACE!! Lessons learned from the accident at TMI 2 have resulted in modifications to nuclear units throu6hout the country which are in operation. TMI 1 can also make necessary modifications while operating.
To force T I 1 to remain out of service, though, appears unjustified and discriminatory.
It's time to get TMI 1 back in operation, relievin6 the tremendcus financial burden on Metropolitan Edison, its customers and its parent company - GPU.
Let's show the world that we are serious not cnly about the safe operation of nuclear units, but in reducing our dependence on imported oil for energy production as well.
Sincerely, e
r 11 S. 3aylor "f,.'
